Dialing up the thermostat is a natural and immediate response to the cold harsh winter weather. And yet, there are other ways to stay warm during the winter aside from super-heating. Instead, you can go for a few suggestions to keep you and your Isle of Wight home warm throughout the cold of the season.
Dress in Layers
To keep the cold at bay, use layers of clothing correctly. Significantly so when you’re going to be moving to and from indoors and outdoors. To keep yourself warm but not overheated while indoors, start with a light layer of wicking fabric first. Then, add layers until you are warm and comfortable. Shirts, sweaters, jackets, and coats are all good options for the top, while flannel-lined pants can be used for when you go out. And don’t forget a hat, scarf, and socks! To keep your head, neck, and feet warm is to keep the rest of your body even warmer and more comfortable.
Winterize Your Home
Be alert about any chilly blasts of air you feel in your home. If you notice a few of these every now and then, it would be a good idea to check and seal the common areas where drafts and air leaks occur. Countless air leaks come from gaps around doors and windows. Try adding some caulking around the frame or replace the weather-stripping around the door frame. Using these can be very effective. Drafts can get in beneath your doors. Try rolling a towel or blanket and use it to block the draft. Thermal curtains, soft rugs, and other fabrics can also help alleviate cold spots and keep your home warmer.
Furnace Maintenance
Contemplate calling and scheduling professional service for your furnace, especially if it’s been a while since your furnace had a check-up, Taking good care of your furnace means giving it regular maintenance. The same holds true for the rest of your property. Your heating system will eventually wear out and will work harder to maintain a consistent temperature. However, if you change the filters with regular maintenance, you can keep your energy costs down while keeping your system running in good shape.
Use a Humidifier
If your area’s winter months are generally cold and dry, providing your home with a humidifier can help you stay warm while inside. Dry air usually feels much colder than air with humidity. Cold, dry air also tends to leave your skin and hair feeling rough and dehydrated. To keep your air moist, use a humidifier. A whole-house humidifier is a great investment; but, you can go for the smaller ones, as well. Simply getting a low-priced humidifier for frequently used rooms or even boiling a pot of water on the stove can help make the air in your home feel warmer and more comfortable.
Stay Active
The best way to get warmed up is to move around. Our first response to cold weather is to want to stay underneath our blankets. But, the reality is, this isn’t the wisest thing to do if you want to keep your body warm. Staying active leads to increased body temperature, which leads to a warmer body. Regularly exercising will keep you warm and healthy because it helps build muscle and improves blood flow. But even activities like cleaning, playing an interactive game, or other types of movement can do the trick. Try to build an active daily routine so that you can keep yourself warm all throughout the winter season.
