Decorating Your Hampton Rental Property: Tips for Buying Rugs

Hampton Renters Rolling Out a New RugAmazing how something as simple as the perfect rug can transform your Hampton rental home. But, choosing and buying rugs come with challenges. From size to material to colors; these details matter. This could add complications to the rug-buying process. But it doesn’t need to be. Here are a few tips to help you spot the perfect rug for your rental home.

Choose the Right Size and Shape

What rug shape should you choose? What size best fits your area? The most important detail you really need to take note of is the size of the rug — it has to fit inside your space perfectly. If you pick a rug that’s too small, your space will end up looking awkward. Too large, and the area will look like it’s too cramped. To assess what size and shape rug you need, measure the space. It’s never a bad thing to leave visible space between the wall and the rug on all sides. This is significant when looking for a runner or other walkway rug.

Choosing rugs for other rooms, however, is a bit more challenging. Regardless, it’s best to know a few details that can help. For living rooms, measure the seating area and choose a rug that will be big enough to place at least the front legs of your furniture on it. For dining areas, make sure the rug is big enough to hold both the table and the chairs while allowing room for someone to sit comfortably without the chair legs falling off the rug. If you have round rugs, you can pair them with your round tables. You can use bedroom rugs under your bed, too. Regardless of shape, just make sure they fill up enough space to walk on all sides.

Choosing Material and Weave

After looking for your preferred size and shape, you can start looking for the kind of material and weave you want. Rugs can be made from many materials, from synthetic fibers and artificial silks to natural fibers and wool. If you want a long-lasting rug, consider synthetic fibers. However, you can also go for something leaning more toward luxury like silk or wool rug. Each of these materials also tends to come in various weaves, from low-pile rugs that are essentially flat to high-pile or plush rugs that can feel soft as a cloud under your feet. For the weave, it all depends on what you want.

Color and Pattern

Determining what kind of color and pattern you want for your rug can be quite a challenge. The color of the rug is important because it can, oftentimes, be what sets the tone for the entire room. To choose a color and pattern, think about your other stuff. If you have a lot of color and pattern in your furniture and other décor items, consider choosing a rug with a neutral color or subtle pattern to pull the room together. Nevertheless, you can always go with a rug that can brighten up your living space, especially when you have furniture that’s neutral.

Function and Maintenance

In closing, try to determine what your rug is for — this way, you can give it the cleaning and maintenance it needs. There are a lot of expensive rugs that most likely won’t be easily replaced. So, choose a rug that fits your lifestyle and your ability to maintain it. A luxurious silk rug is nice, but it won’t do well in a high-traffic area. And, never forget to get a rug pad to keep those rugs in place. Loose rugs are responsible for a lot of falls and injuries — so, best to keep safety a priority, too.
